I haven't done an Odds & Ends column in ages, so without further ado...
Working at an old-school insurance company allows me to hear some of the worst piped in music on a daily basis. Much to my delight I walked in yesterday morning to hear "Rock The Casbah". Although it was never one of my favorite Clash songs, any Clash song at work is a good Clash song... Speaking of the greatest band ever, they have their own section "On Demand" this month, including the newly released documentary "Joe Strummer - The Future Is Unwritten", which I heard is fantastic. It also has a bunch of their videos - my 20 month old daughter enjoyed doing her spaz dance to "This Is Radio Clash"....
Although I have mentioned it before, "30 Rock" has become my favorite comedy on TV. If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly recommend it... I finally found some time to start reading again, and recently started "Steroid Nation" by Shaun Assael. Very interesting/entertaining read so far...
Christmas season is here, and although it is one of my favorite holidays, it means I have to hear the worst Christmas song ever, "A Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney. I feel like stabbing my eardrums whenever it comes on the radio... Speaking of Christmas, here is a great site that put together a ton of holiday movies, videos, etc. You could spend hours on there, so you've been warned... And now that I have a child, I actually pay attention to recalled toys. Did anyone else hear about this CSI Fingerprint Kit that contains Asbestos? And that it is still on shelves at toy stores? Unreal...
Okay, so a couple of random videos for you before I'm done. Although I still haven't watched the NHL this year, for some reason the old B's-Habs fight from 1986 (I believe) popped into my head the other day. The video is a bit scratchy, but is still fantastic - Fred Cusick called the action like no other in his heyday... The 2nd is my favorite video of the year. In case you hadn't seen it, Kanye West asked comedian Zach Galifianakis to remake the video for his song "Can't Tell Me Nothin'". The result was frickin hilarious. My wife and I saw him perform at Berklee Performance Center back in July, and I cannot recommend him enough...
