What the F*** were you thinking?

The better late than never edition...

(Greg)So only a couple of weeks left in the fantasy season Gusto. I’m playing for 3rd at this point against Shea the next couple of weeks. His team had the most points in the league this year, so it’ll be an uphill battle… How much did you enjoy being at the smoke show in Foxboro last Sunday? Officer Quimby (Jay) is going this week, so we’ll have to watch for fans flashing their badges to avoid getting tossed… Anyways, on to this week’s WTF debate. As it has been the case in previous weeks, no real beef at QB. The only marginally big difference was Garcia (11th for you, 17th for me), but as I said in my rankings notes, I had him a bit lower because I’m still worried about his back…

It’s funny, usually we have far more differences in opinion with WR’s than RB’s, but this week we had 9 RB’s that were off by 7 or more spots from each other, as opposed to only 5 WR’s. And let’s get one out of the way now before I get to RB’s; I’m assuming that it is a typo that Plax is not on your list this week, right?

Okay, onto RB’s. Is the #13 spot for Stecker a typo? I’ll be absolutely stunned if he is the 13th best RB in the league this week. You do realize that ARI is actually decent against the run, allowing less than 100 yards per game? And that Stecker has 1 TD in the past 3 years combined (178 attempts)? He’s my “bench” in the ARI-NO game, and I’ll be chalking this one up as a miss for you when I recap this after Sunday’s games… I may be eating these words (doubtful), but this may be your worst ranking of the season!

Look, I love the way Fragile Fred has been playing as of late, but there’s no way he’s a low-end #2 this week. PITT is going to be punishing him all day after getting their asses handed to them in Foxboro last week. Same goes for MJD as well, who has been a huge disappointment this year. I can see this being an ugly 16-13 battle of the FG’s game, with the Steelers edging out the Jags in what should be a great game…

And finally, since I know you’re a huge fan, I’ll justify my DeShaun Foster ranking by saying that I can see this week’s game against SEA being one of those 27 carry, 84 yards rushing and a TD games. Not pretty, but for fantasy purposes, I’ll take it. SEA has allowed more rushing TD’s than all but two teams, and Foster should be able to punch one in…

Thankfully there aren’t too many WR’s to discuss, because this column could get a bit lengthy… I won’t kill you on Welker at #10; I have him a bit high at #3, but if the weather isn’t that great, #10 is entirely reasonable. And for Jennings, #4 is a little too high, but it’s not like I had him at #20. I like Driver to get into the end zone this week, which is why I have Jennings a bit lower. Since there are only two other guys, I guess I’ll cover them too; two rookies going in different directions, but with almost opposite ranking spots by the two of us. I am close to turning the corner on Gonzalez, but I think he’ll struggle against OAK’s pass defense this week, as Addai is likely to get 25+ carries. And with Bowe, I have him higher than he deserves to be at #21, but he’s due to break out of the slump he’s been in (sounds like Megatron last week – maybe I should have learned from your misguided attempts at thinking he was good this year). Just a hunch pick, as I think he’ll put up good #’s against the Titans….

That’s it for me sir. Take your time to digest all of the extremely informative wisdom I have provided to you before you respond…

(Don)The Pats game was great last week. Got to see a couple of obnoxious Steelers’ fans get harassed and then booted out of the stadium. Damn, I hate people that think that their team is going to walk into Foxboro and win.

Off the topic of football, have you seen these awful Lexus commercials? They run every year around the Holiday Season and are pretty much the same thing – husband buying a freakin’ brand new Lexus for his wife for Christmas. Who the f#$@ is Lexus targeting with these commercials? I don’t know anyone that drops 50K or more for a Lexus to give to their spouse at Christmas. It’s so damn annoying.

Okay I am better now, on to our debate. Yeah, Plaxico Burress not being on my WR list was an oversight. I re-did my list last night and he is ranked in similar territory as you had him.

Dude, you look at defensive rankings way too much. They are a factor in many cases, but other times you gotta go with what you see on the field as well as the player’s opportunity. Aaron Stecker has never been a starter in the league except for four games in 2005 when Deuce McAllister was injured so the stat you refer to about Stecker not scoring touchdowns is useless. You said the same thing about Justin Fargas in this column a few months ago and look how that turned out for you – NOT WELL. Stecker got all the goal line carries last week and plays on an explosive offense - that gives him a decent chance to score this week. And let’s not confuse Arizona’s rush defense with Pittsburgh or anything. I may have him slightly higher than I should at #13, but he is way too low in your rankings at #25.

I am not even going to defend Fred Taylor and MJD this week, I should have had them lower. My bad on that one.

Foster is a stiff, bottom line. He won’t produce like a top 20 RB this week as you have him, I don’t care that Seattle has given up the 2nd most rushing touchdowns. He is a bum, the Panthers blow and the Seahawks will win in a rout.

I think you are going to lose out big time on Dwayne Bowe this week. He has not done much over the last three weeks and Kansas City’s offense is a disaster right now with injuries and offensive line problems.

You gotta give some more love to my boy Anthony Gonzalez though. Did you see how good he looked against the Ravens last week? I know rookie receivers are unreliable at times, but his situation is much like Aaron Stecker’s – opportunity. No Marvin Harrison on the field and Peyton Manning currently in the zone = lots of targets for Gonzalez.

Now I have to call you out on a few sucka. I am really confused on your Darius Walker ranking of #23 overall for RB’s. While I have him lower in my rankings, I actually don’t necessarily disagree with you. However, you chose him as your “Bench” in the Start/Bench column this week, stating Denver is not as bad as they appear against the run and he won’t do that well. I am sure all of our readers want to know what gives on those contradictory calls.

The other one I have to question is Willie Parker at #10. “Fast Willie” is actually my “Start” this week for the Start/Bench column, but I am not sure he is going to finish as the 10th best fantasy RB of the week. As many yards as he runs for, he is not a great fantasy options because he doesn’t catch passes and doesn’t score touchdowns. He is long overdue for a TD, but it is risky thinking it will come this week against Jacksonville.

I am done son. I’ll let you have the last word because this thing is way too long.

Yeah, those Lexus commercials are awful, as are most of them at this point. With the exception of sporting events, I rarely watch live television anymore, so I’m usually able to avoid the crap they put on these days…

I almost brought up Huggy Bear Jr’s name when debating Stecker earlier, as the exact point you made crossed my mind when I was typing it up… I just don’t see Stecker crossing the goal line this week, nor do I think he’ll have 100 yards rushing, as Brees and Warner’ll be too busy slinging the ball around to run the ball 20+ times…

Nothing more to add on Foster, as I realize that he may be one of your least favorite players in the league. All I’ll say is that in their last 4 games, they’ve let up 5 rushing TD’s, including ones to Shaun Alexander and Cedric Benson, two of the worst starting RB’s in the league…

I may be wrong on Bowe and admit that he has the potential to be my worst ranking of the week. But as I said before, I just have a hunch that he is due to break one… And like I said with Gonzalez, if he has a good game against a very solid OAK secondary, then count me as a believer. But I’m not that confident that he’ll do anything special. In his last 4 games, he had 6 for 134, 1 for 22, 6 for 105, & 1 for 13. Harrison didn’t play in any of those games, and if that isn’t a perfect example of being an inconsistent rookie WR, I don’t know what is…

I’ll be more than happy to explain myself with Walker. I have him as my bench because when most people think of DEN’s rush defense, they think that the RB starting against them is due for a monster game. I don’t think Walker will be terrible, as 80+ total yards isn’t bad from a low-end #2/high #3. Last week the 23rd ranked RB in terms of rushing yards was Gado, with 52. I predicted 68 yards on the ground for Walker, which would have been good enough to be #19th last week (tied with Gore). So I think in both cases, I covered myself…

As for Fast Willie, I probably should have dropped him down a few spots to around #13, but you have to believe that he is going to find the end zone again. He’s been an absolute rock in yardage leagues, with seven games over 100 yards rushing, and in all but 3 games he’s had at least 80 yards rushing. It’ll be a tough matchup, but it won’t surprise me to see both teams ground it out most of the day, as it’ll likely be a game where time of possession makes a big factor on the outcome, not to mention the fact that there is the strong possibility of terrible weather in Pittsburgh, with rain, wind, and snow in the forecast as of today….
