So with game #1 in the books, it appears that the Celtics want in on the ridiculous winning streak going on here in Boston right now, after a 20 point thrashing of the Wizards last night. Gusto was at the game, and I'll see if we can get a report on it from him...
When I was in my late teens, my friends and I were die-hard Bruins fans, and couldn't understand how people could be "fair-weather fans". Now that I'm in my early 30's, a full time job, and a 19 month old child, I am now part of that group. Seriously, the B's are so far under the radar right now that High School sports has more coverage in the Globe each day. From what I've heard, they've looked good so far, so maybe I'll start watching them if they make it past the first round of the playoffs.... I will say though, if you haven't seen it already, Chara pummelled the crap out of some guy named David Koci last week. Here is a video of it...
Went back to the old neighborhood for lunch yesterday to have the best Buffalo Chicken sandwich (shameless plug for Grumpy White's), although I have to say, for a local joint, they've gone a bit far with the burger promotion. I noticed a few months ago that they added a triple cheeseburger to the menu, and then recently a quadruple burger was added as well. On the sign yesterday was a congratulatory message to someone named Matt (shocked that the name didn't say Jay Borden), who ate 5 frickin 4 oz cheeseburgers. That's just f'n nasty...
For those of you who have HBO, try to catch the Calzaghe - Kessler fight at 9PM tonight. It should be a good one. Calzaghe is 43-0, and has been champ since 1997. Because he's not American, most casual fans don't know much about him. His last fight had a lot of publicity because it was against former "The Contender" boxer Peter Manfredo, who he stopped in the 3rd round of a fight that was ridiculously one-sided. Manfredo as well as many others felt that the ref stopped the fight early, but it was clear that he wasn't going to last much longer anyways...
And finally, for those of you that don't read anything other than ESPN.com and this site, there is a very strong possibility that as of Monday, the Hollywood Writers Union will be on strike for the first time since the late 1980's. This means that nightly shows such as Colbert Report and Letterman will go on hiatus immediately, and for network shows, it sounds like February will be around the time they run out of new episodes already filmed. So get ready for a healthy dose of bad reality shows (MILF Island, created by Alec Baldwin's character on 30 Rock sounds like it could be a big hit. The tag line: 50 MILF's, 20 8th Graders, No Rules...).
We'll be back tomorrow with Gameday Inactives as well as Instant Accountability...
