Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 10

QUARTERBACKS

Brooks Bollinger, MIN - Not Recommended. He did complete 70% of his passes and threw for a TD on Sunday, but unfortunately, he only had 10 attempts, 95 yards, and a RB that may get the ball 30 times a game from here on out. Move along...

Patrick Ramsey, DEN - Recommended. Early reports sound like Cutler may be out for a while. I'm not a huge Ramsey fan, but when Walker comes back, he does have a decent group of WR's, and should put up okay numbers if you are desperate for a QB...

J.P. Losman, BUF - Recommended. I liked Losman preseason, but then he went out and played like Ryan Leaf to start the year. The Losman from late last year seems to be back, and with the Bills surprisingly still alive to make a run at a Wild Card spot, he's probably one of the best available options in your league right now...

Matt Moore, CAR -Not Recommended. Where's Jake Delhomme when you need him??? This team is in shambles right now, and if you're looking at picking up their #4 QB, it's time to pack it up for this year...

Quinn Gray, JAX - Slightly Recommended. Gray actually put up pretty big numbers against the Saints, with over 350 yards passing and 2 TD's. The 3 INT's didn't help much, but he proved that he can be a passable QB for your team if the matchup is right...

RUNNING BACKS

Priest Holmes, KC - Recommended. I really wanted to highly recommend him, but no one knows what he has left in the tank. It looks as if LJ is going to miss at least one game, and KC has a great matchup against the Broncos in Week 10. He should be owned in all leagues...

Michael Robinson/Maurice Hicks, SF - Slightly Recommended. That #1 pick for the Pats from SF next year is looking better and better. With Gore out, Hicks and Robinson combined for decent #'s (24 carries, 116 yards, 1 TD), but without knowing who the #1 is, I wouldn't recommend either of them too highly unless the 49'ers announce a starter in the event that Gore is out again for Week 10...

Maurice Morris, SEA - Recommended. I'm really not a big Morris fan, but it appears that it is only a matter of time before he takes over the starting RB duties from Shaun Alexander, who really looks like he doesn't have much in the tank, averaging under 3 yards a carry yesterday. Morris had a 3 games in which he rushed for over 70 yards 2006 when Alexander went down, but 2 of them came against the Rams, and the other against the Raiders. Temper your expectations for him...

Ron Dayne, HOU - Who The Hell Knows. Every year Dayne has 1 or 2 monster games, and then gets added/dropped a number of times in every league. HOU is on a bye this week anyways, but if he is named starter, he might be worth a flyer, even though it may be a 3-way time share at RB between him, Green, and AE....

Justin Fargas, OAK - Highly Recommended. This ones for Gusto. With Fargas named the new starting RB in Oakland, he is the pickup of the week. He probably isn't as available as some of the other guys on this weeks list, but if he is available in your league, snatch him up as quickly as possible, if not to use as trade bait for Jordan's owner. Big game against HOU Sunday, although everyone should keep an eye on Michael Bush as a deep sleeper, as he may get some carries down the stretch...

Corey Dillon
, FA - Recommended. Purely speculative and I would wait until he clears waivers, but if the Pats do sign him, he would most definitely be their goal-line back and could get a half-dozen TD's in the 2nd half. I don't know what kind of shape he is in, considering that much of last year he didn't look that good...

WIDE RECEIVERS

D.J. Hackett, SEA, Highly Recommended – Hackett (ankle) returned from a six-game absence to haul in six passes for 58 yards and scored a touchdown in Sunday’s 33-30 overtime loss at Cleveland. Hackett was a trendy sleeper heading into this season, but suffered a dreaded high ankle sprain in Seattle’s first game. As discussed in our upgrade/downgrade column, Hackett has nice blend of size and speed and the Seahawks are starting to become an unbalanced offensive team that relies heavily on the pass. Seattle has a lot of depth at wide receiver, but Hackett starts and is probably the most talented of the bunch. He is one of those players that can really help a fantasy team down the stretch and could be available on the waiver wire.

Lance Moore, NO, Not Recommended – Moore caught three passes for 26 yards with a touchdown in Sunday’s 41-24 win over Jacksonville. New Orleans’ passing game is clicking with Drew Brees and Moore is getting some looks, but not enough to warrant fantasy consideration. Moore has only scored one other time this season, a seven-yard rushing touchdown in mid-October, and has not gone over 55 yards receiving in any game. Unless the Saints suffer a few injuries at the wide receiver position, Moore is not a reliable option.

Reggie Williams, JAC, Not Recommended – Williams caught six passes for a season-high 128 yards and scored on an 80-yard touchdown in Sunday’s loss at New Orleans. Williams has had mild success scoring this season with four touchdowns, but has done virtually nothing in terms of yardage. Williams is a huge target at 6-4, 212, but even though he scored on a long touchdown in Sunday’s game, he is one of the slowest receivers in the league. The Jaguars prefer to grind it out with the running game so unless they change their offensive philosophy or have to play from behind frequently, Williams is not worthy of a waiver wire pickup.

Sidney Rice, MIN, Not Recommended - Rice caught four passes for 66 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown, to help Minnesota upset San Diego on Sunday. Although Rice is a talented rookie, the Vikings offense begins and ends with Adrian Peterson. Plus, the team’s quarterback situation is a disaster - Tarvaris Jackson is one of the worst starting quarterbacks this decade while backups Kelly Holcomb and Brooks Bollinger are just average passers. Jackson got hurt again on Sunday so it was actually Bollinger that threw the touchdown pass to Rice. But even if Bollinger or Holcomb start over Jackson, Rice still does not have much value. Rice is someone to keep an eye on in the future, however, because he has good size and speed and tremendous leaping ability.

TIGHT ENDS

Tony Curtis, DAL, Not Recommended – Curtis caught a real nice one-yard touchdown from Tony Romo in Sunday’s 38-17 win at Philadelphia. But there are a number of reasons to completely stay away from Curtis. The most important reason being that Dallas has Jason Witten, who is probably the best tight end in the NFC. The other being that Curtis has just three catches all season, although two have gone for touchdowns. Curtis is a big player and showed some athleticism on Sunday’s touchdown grab, but unless something happens to Witten, Curtis has extremely low value.

Robert Royal, BUF, Not Recommended – Royal had a pair of receptions for 35 yards and scored a touchdown in Sunday’s 33-21 victory over Cincinnati. However, the Bengals have been torched by opposing tight ends all season so we cannot buy into Royal’s productive game. J.P. Losman has opened up the offense a little more with his strong arm, but Lee Evans is the only pass catcher to own on Buffalo. Unless Royal strings together a bunch of good games or you are completely desperate, he is not a viable option.

I'm assuming this is the one that was already accepted? If so, nice trade, and good luck hoping he isn't able to overturn it...
