Below is an injury update for today’s early games. Their replacement is listed as well if applicable.
MARVIN HARRISON (knee) was ruled out on Saturday for those that did not hear the news. Rookie ANTHONY GONZALEZ will start in his place and is a good option in all formats.
KELLY HOLCOMB will start at quarterback against Philadelphia. TARVARIS JACKSON (finger) will serve as Minnesota’s emergency quarterback. Holcomb is only a minor upgrade over Jackson, but Holcomb is a better downfield passer and has had some success in the past.
CHESTER TAYLOR (groin) will play in the game against Philadelphia, but he’ll back up ADRIAN PETERSON for the first time this season. There does not seem to be many reasons to use Taylor this week unless you are thin at the running back spot.
RUDI JOHNSON (hamstring) is inactive again for the game against Pittsburgh. KENNY WATSON will start, but may not play as well as last week facing a strong Steelers’ rush defense.
STEVEN JACKSON (groin) is active for the game against Cleveland. BRIAN LEONARD will obviously lose carries as a result, but one would assume Jackson won’t take on the full load in his first game back.
JAMAL LEWIS (foot) is active for the game at St. Louis. JASON WRIGHT will be in the mix, but Lewis should see most of the work. Lewis could fare well against a suspect Rams’ rush defense.
DERRICK WARD (ankle) is inactive for the game in London against Miami. BRANDON JACOBS was going to see most of the work anyway, but now RUBEN DROUGHNS figures to be a minor factor, possibly at the goal line.
PLAXICO BURRESS (ankle) is active for the game in London against Miami. Burress doesn’t practice much during the week anymore, but has not missed any games due to his nagging ankle injury.
CHRIS BROWN (ankle) won’t play in the game against Oakland. CHRIS HENRY will serve as LENDALE WHITE’S primary backup.
VINCE YOUNG (quad) will start against Tennessee. Not a big surprise here as coach Jeff Fisher proclaimed Young to be ready earlier in the week.
TATUM BELL is inactive for the game against Chicago. Bell is not injured, but has fallen out of favor in Detroit. KEVIN JONES will start again and T.J. DUCKETT will get some carries as well.
