Odds & Ends

Random thoughts while wondering if my 4-1 team has any shot at winning with Jason Wright and Justin Fargas at RB this week...

How clutch were Manny and Ortiz last night? I had DVR'd The Office and 30 Rock on Thursday night, and didn't expect to watch them until today, due to the fantastic pitching matchup between C.C. & Beckett. But when the score was 8-2, I was completely okay with turning it off... If we go up 2-0 against Carmona tonight, this may be a sweep...

Speaking of those two shows, I have to admit, 30 Rock was actually better this week, and is easily one of the top 3 funniest shows on television (Curb Your Enthusiasm rounds out the top 3 for me). This week's episode had another guest appearance from Will Arnett, who kills me in just about everything he is in (no, I didn't see "Let's Go To Prison"). Here's hoping that the rumors are true regarding an Arrested Development movie... I love The Office, but I don't know that the hour episodes to start off the season was a good idea. About 40 minutes in I usually start to get a bit tired of it, and that's including fast forwarding through the commercials. One more week until it goes back to a half hour...

So I had a hard time buying my wife a mother's day gift this year. She had just finished reading the book "Wicked", and loved it. I noticed that the show version was coming to Boston later in the year. So when I went to buy tickets, I specifically avoided Sunday shows so I wouldn't miss any football games. So I chose a Saturday night, figuring that I wouldn't have to worry about missing any games. Needless to say, I won't be seeing much of tonight's game....

Peter King is one of my favorite football writers, and I usually read Monday Morning Quarterback as soon as it is posted, but does anyone else think he should drop the the non-football thoughts section? He is ridiculously out of touch. Here are a couple from this week:

"g. I could watch the Frank Caliendo stuff about a hundred more times. He's funnier today than Belushi was 30 years ago. He's even got GeorgeBush's facial expressions down pat. I mean, they're perfect.

h. And did I mention how great the Parcells-Coors Light-Bigfoot ad is? It's the best one of the entire series, particularly when Parcells, after being asked if he believes in Bigfoot, says, "I'd have to see some visual evidence,'' and there's Bigfoot, in the $17.95 Bigfoot costume."

Are you kidding me? I have nothing further to add to either one of those....

Finally, a couple music-related notes; in case you haven't heard, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are getting back together for the 1st time in 4 years for another Hometown Throwdown series. My concert days have been winding down, but I'll definitely be there for one of those shows...

And for those of you that prefer live music to studio albums, the best site out there for downloading shows is EZTorrent. They cap the number of members at 100K, so you may have to wait a bit to get into it (it's free as well). Out of sheer curiosity, I downloaded the first David Lee Roth-led Van Halen concert in years from Charlotte, and it was shockingly good. I'm not a big VH fan, but it's definitely worth a listen...

Another football update tomorrow - Go Pats!!!
