Odds & Ends

So with a day off from the Massacre (i.e. Sox/Cleveland), I got a chance to catch up with a couple of my favorite shows; Curb Your Enthusiasm & Weeds. CYE, after having a subpar Season 5, has been fantastic this year. Larry's dad's reaction after getting a "happy ending" was classic... Weeds was good as well, although it served mostly as a setup for the last 5 episodes of the season. At least Mary-Kate Olsen only had about 30 seconds of air time.... I also started re-watching Season 1 of The Wire. It appears that HBO is going to re-air the first 4 seasons in anticipation of the final season, which will begin airing early next year. 50 hours is a lot of time to commit to a show that I've already seen every episode of. But the fact that it is the BEST SHOW EVER made the decision a bit easier...

The Boston Globe gave a strong review to "Gone Baby Gone" in Wendesday's paper. Even with Affleck directing, I don't know how you can go wrong with a movie co-starring Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman... In another Boston related item, I highly recommend the new DKM CD, "The Meanest of Times". It is far, far better than their last CD, which had two of their worst songs ever, "Tessie", and "The Sunshine Highway". One the many standout tracks on the CD is "Flannigan's Ball" (best Quincy referenced song ever!), as well as the current single "The State Of Massachusetts", which can be found here.

Children-Related Links (yeah, we cover that here too...)

Random Book recommendation: Alternadad, by Neal Pollock. One of the better dad-related books out there.

Music Recommendation: The Rockabye Baby! Series. The Smashing Pumpkins one is my favorite, and virtually all of them are a welcome reprieve from Laurie Berkner and The Backyardigans...

Finally, the pessimist in me says that all of the Red Sox hitters have already packed their suitcases for the offseason, but the "hey, we actually made a monster comeback against the Yankees 3 years ago" side says that if Beckett can win tomorrow night, and Schilling can have another one of his big game performances, it'll be up to Dice-K...
